News and Updates

Members stay up-to-date on the latest legislation, research and trends pertinent to the accounting profession. We deliver curated news and resources directly to your inbox with our various communications. Also, during Virginia Session, we have VSCPA staff at Capitol Hill, keeping you updated in real time. We call it Session Watch, leveraging our amazing community to advocate for your CPA needs at a legislative level.

While lots of information is sent directly to your inbox, we also have our resource centers and knowledge hub so you can find solutions to your unique accounting needs, like capacity, tax, leadership, DEI, audits and more.

Connection

As the old saying goes, it’s not about what you know, but who you know, which is why the Virginia Society of CPAs works to network you with other professionals in various ways. Connect with other members through our networking events, peer learning groups and local chapters. Plus, we've built you a digital community called Connect, where you get exclusive access to a private community of your peers — find answers to technical questions, make connections for business development, and meet other accountants in your area, all from the comfort of your home.

In addition, you can make connections while developing your career through volunteering and mentoring. More below.

Career Development

Develop yourself and advance your career with the VSCPA. From your first job to succession, we want to support you. Here’s how...

  • Career Center: The VSCPA has created a Career Center where you can find and post accounting jobs and internships, learn from articles, develop yourself with coaching, and get free resume reviews.
  • Volunteering: The VSCPA wants to help you grow as a leader. One way we do that is through our volunteer opportunities. Become a volunteer and join one of our many task forces and councils so you can be a part of transforming your profession.
  • Mentoring: You're not meant to do it alone. That's why the VSCPA has developed our VSCPA mentorship program, free to all members. Whether you’re pursuing your CPA, just starting in your career, or you’re well-established, we’d love to help you thrive in a one-on-one environment.
Advocacy

The Virginia Society of CPAs exists to help CPAs thrive. This is at the heart of everything we do, especially advocacy.

We’ve created task forces and committees to better understand and solve problems unique to CPAs, problems like an additional pathway to licensure, interstate protections, rolling tax conformity and PTET. We then leverage our membership network through VoterVoice, while working with legislators, to make changes at the state-government level, protecting your CPA license and business. Learn more about what issues we're talking and what stances we're taking through our Advocacy page.

While legislation is important, it’s only one part of advocacy. Problems CPAs encounter are dynamic and require creative solutions, which is why we developed programs like CPAs in the Classroom to help students get excited about accounting and offer scholarships for minority students who are underrepresented in the profession.

With your membership fee, we're ensuring a bright future for accountants. Thank you for empowering us to work for you!
