Laurie De Armond, CPA, is an assurance partner with more than 25 years of experience in all phases of client service and accounting practices. She dedicates most of her practice to auditing nonprofit organizations in all sub-segments, including colleges and universities, scientific and educational organizations, public charities, private foundations, trade associations, social services organizations, and private foundations, as well as quasi-governmental and governmental organizations. Among the services she offers are performing OMB Circular A-133 and program-specific audits and auditing employee benefit plans, including defined contribution, defined benefit, health and welfare, and single- and multiple-employer plans. Laurie is a national co-leader and Greater Washington, D.C. managing partner of the BDO Nonprofit and Education practice. In this capacity she helps shape the strategic direction of the practice both nationally and locally. She is a regular contributor to the firm’s industry blog and quarterly newsletter, BDO Nonprofit Standard. She is a regular speaker at internal and external seminars on such topics as accounting practices and internal controls for nonprofit organizations, governance issues, single and compliance audits, leadership development, and diversity and inclusion. She is also a frequent speaker for such organizations as the AICPA and the Greater Washington Society of CPAs. Laurie has served on numerous boards of directors, including that of a local college. In 2013 Laurie received a “Women to Watch Award” from the Greater Washington Society of CPAs for her contributions to the profession. She is a member of the BDO’s Inclusion – Women National Strategy Team.
