Janet Faughnan

Janet Faughnan, CPA, earned her undergraduate accounting degree in three years from Miami University in Oxford Ohio in 1982 and her Master's in business dministration -- Finance, Cum Laude from George Washington University in 1988. She Faughnan has over 35 years in professional accounting practice and accounting education experience. She began her career at KPMG with audit clients in banking, labor, manufacturing and nonprofit. Upon leaving KPMG, she was the controller for Meritor Savings Bank and the CFO for The Stationer’s Office Supply. Janet then entered the field of financial and tax consulting where she continues her accounting practice today advising clients in the labor, nonprofit and services sector. Janet continues over 19 years of experience at George Mason University. She has developed curriculum and teaches in both the graduate and undergraduate business programs and executive education. Her most recent curriculum development has been specifically for non-accounting business majors. She has taught in the EMBA, MSM, MSA and undergraduate programs at George Mason. She also develops courses for industry including Executive Education for the Federal Government, TW Perry and Exxon Mobil. She interacts with students in her role as advisor for NABA, her memberships in Delta Sigma PI and Beta Alpha Psi. She is the course coordinator for two undergraduate accounting classes which entails coordination of over 600 students and 12 sections and eight instructors. She coordinates an Annual Speakers Series for accounting students which attracts partners from national, regional and local accounting firms, the federal government and corporations. She has led students on international residencies; the EMBA Global Residency in Beijing China (May 2014) and the MSA Global Residency in Ireland (May 2017). Janet is actively involved with the Virginia Society of CPAs (VSCPA), where she promotes student scholarships and student leadership development seminars. She is also a member of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA). She sits on the board of The Kelly Faughnan Foundation, a nonprofit wish granting foundation. She is actively involved in fundraising and program development.
