Jim Shepherd, CPA, CFP®, EA®, is a native of Richmond and received his bachelor of science degree from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and received a post baccalaureate certificate in accounting from Virginia Commonwealth University. He earned a master’s of science degree in financial planning from the College for Financial Planning, and holds the Certified Financial Planner™ designation from the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. and the designation of Accredited Investment Fiduciary®. The American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) has designated him as a personal financial specialist.
He is a representative of Verus Financial Partners (VFP), registered investment adviser. He serves on VFP’s Investment Policy Committee. Jim is the chair of VFP. He is the immediate past chair of the Virginia Society of CPAs (VSCPA) Board of Directors. He served on the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors for the VSCPA, as well as vice chair of the VSCPA Educational Foundation and past-president for the Richmond chapter of the VSCPA. Jim is a member of the Financial Planning Association, past-president of the Richmond Society of the Institute of Certified Financial Planners and the recipient of the Roy Johnson Founders’ Award from the Central Virginia Society. He is past-president of the Richmond chapter of the International Association for Financial Planning. His peers have selected him as an “Outstanding CPA” in financial planning, as reported in Virginia Business Magazine. He was named the 2008 recipient of the John H. Cecil, Jr. Lifetime Service Award by the Financial Planning Association of Central Virginia.
Jim is a member and past-president of the South Richmond Rotary Club and was appointed by the Chesterfield Board of Supervisors as a member of the Health Center Commission to oversee the Lucy Corr Nursing Home where he served as chair. He is past-president of The Byrd Theatre Foundation which serves to restore and preserve the Richmond landmark.
