James Rizzo

Jim Rizzo, J.D., is executive vice president, chief legal officer  and corporate secretary for the National Association  of Home Builders of the United  States (“NAHB”).  In his role, Jim is responsible for all aspects of legal advocacy, corporate governance and human resources. He provides legal oversight to the largest annual light construction trade show in the world — the International Builders Show — as well as  to NAHB’s for-profit subsidiary, the Home Innovation Research Lab,  three related charitable organizations — the Home Builders Institute, (HBI) the HBI Disaster Relief Fund, and the National Housing Endowment — and a large Political Action Committee — BUILD-PAC. 

Prior to joining NAHB, Jim was a partner with the international law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP in Washington, D.C. He has represented Fortune 500 companies, financial institutions, trade associations, academic institutions, and professionals for more than 20 years. He is experienced in a wide range of    subject matter including antitrust, class actions, commercial loans, corporate governance/compliance, employment, health care, insider trading, insurance, intellectual property, legal ethics, product liability, professional malpractice, patent licensing, real estate, and white collar. Industry experience includes financial services, health care, high tech, insurance, life sciences and textiles. 

Jim holds a J.D. degree from Fordham University School of Law and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court and the state and federal courts in the District of  Columbia, New York and Connecticut. Jim received a B.A.degree in English from Georgetown University. He and his wife, Patty, a medical oncologist, live in Northern Virginia with their four children and two dogs.
