Cheryl Hyder

Cheryl Hyder, CPA, is the principal of Hyder Consulting Group, a consultancy providing litigation support services related to financial investigations and valuations of privately-owned businesses. She has been performing these type of assignments for most of her 25-plus-year career. Her practice focuses on professional services for matrimonial or business dissolutions, accounting standard of care and other commercial litigation. She has testified as an expert in forensic accounting, business valuation, accounting standard of care and income taxation matters. She also provides consulting services including fraud risk and process review and redesign. Cheryl has held volunteer leadership positions in national, regional and local professional organizations throughout much of her career. She is the president of the Northern Chapter of the Virginia Society of CPAs (VSCPA), the largest chapter in the Commonwealth, after being elected to the chapter’s Board of Directors in 2015. She also has chaired or co-chaired the chapter’s Forensic and Valuation Services Committee since 2006. Cheryl previously chaired the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts’ (NACVA) Litigation Forensics Board after being appointed to that board for a three-year term. Her activities with the Metro-D.C. Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) in various capacities from 2004 until serving as president during the 2010-2012 term. During her tenure, the chapter was twice nominated internationally as "Chapter of the Year" and received the coveted award in 2012. She also served as an adjunct accounting faculty member for the Virginia Community College System. Cheryl is a member of the VSCPA teaching faculty and its Professional Ethics Committee, and senior correspondent for the Appraisal Database and Mentoring Service’s “Around the Valuation World™” monthly webzine (NACVA/IBA). She lectures regularly to peer, legal and academic communities. She received the ACFE’s Hubbard award in 2011 for the most influential article of the as well as a special acclamation from ACFE for her overall efforts in fraud prevention and detection. Past employers and other professional organizations have also recognized her contributions to their missions, including a Fortune-100 company’s commendation for her personal contribution to their reorganization in conformity with regulatory requirements.
