Richmond (Oct. 23, 2023) — With the explosion of artificial intelligence use in the corporate world, business professionals must understand the critical ethical issues surrounding AI use, development and deployment. That’s why the VSCPA is launching a first-of-its-kind AI addition to its suite of Essential Ethics courses.
“AI Ethics 2023: Balancing on the Tightrope” explores critical AI-related topics through real-world cases and thought-provoking discussion. The course examines the emerging regulatory frameworks for AI, analyzes the vulnerabilities and risks associated with AI, offers effective strategies for mitigating risks to ensure ethical practices, and discusses the ethical challenge AI imposes.
Offered on demand and via webcast, the course satisfies the ethics requirement for Virginia CPAs with 2 CPE credits for ethics and 0.5 for technology, and is available to CPAs, finance and business professionals nationwide. The course is also approved by the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA).
A leader in producing ethics courses with innovative content on the pulse of the accounting profession and business world, the VSCPA’s Essential Ethics offerings address the ethical issues professionals face every day working in a fast-paced and changing global environment.
“CPAs have been talking about AI for years, but with widespread AI implementation this year, as well as the introduction of ChatGPT, the time was right to quickly develop a comprehensive course addressing the ethical issues surrounding AI,” said VSCPA President & CEO Stephanie Peters, CAE.
The course is hosted and written by national thought leader and entrepreneur Ace Callwood, a director at Envoy consulting firm. Special guests include David Vogeleer, co-founder and CTO at online insurance provider Buddy, and Jamie Jones Miller, dean and CEO of the Arlington Campus of Northeastern University.
The VSCPA is currently partnering with 10 state CPA associations to offer “AI Ethics 2023: Balancing on the Tightrope”: Alabama Society of CPAs, California Society of CPAs, Idaho Society of CPAs, Illinois CPA Society, Indiana CPA Society, Kentucky Society of CPAs, Society of Louisiana CPAs, Minnesota Society of CPAs, Oklahoma Society of CPAs, Oregon Society of CPAs, and Washington Society of CPAs.
Essential Ethics also includes courses on recruiting and retaining diverse talent, tales of corruption, tax ethics, and more, as well as an Ethics Resource Center with articles and whitepapers.
