Richmond (Aug. 23, 2019) — The Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants (VSCPA) joins the growing coalition pledging to advance diversity and inclusion in the workplace. More than 750 CEOs have come together for CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion™, and VSCPA President & CEO Stephanie Peters, CAE, has signed on to showcase the VSCPA’s support.
Through this commitment, the VSCPA is pledging to take action to cultivate a workplace where diverse perspectives and experiences are welcomed and respected, and will support VSCPA members and their organizations in doing the same. The collective of more than 750 signatories have already shared more than 700 best known actions, exchanging tangible learning opportunities and creating collaborative conversations via the initiative’s unified hub, CEOAction.com.
“’Diversity & Inclusion’ is one of our core organizational values as we strive to foster an environment that respects and reflects a diversity of people, cultures and perspectives,” said VSCPA President & CEO Stephanie Peters, CAE. “The evidence is clear that businesses with diverse talent are far more innovative and achieve greater financial results, and it’s a critical focus for future relevancy of the CPA profession. I’m proud to sign this pledge to showcase the Society’s ongoing commitment and engage our members in this important dialogue.”
Committing to diversity and inclusion is not only the right thing to do, but it’s also a profitable business strategy. A diverse and inclusive workforce facilitates community, but also drives innovation and creativity. A recent study found that 85 percent of those surveyed reported that diversity is a key component to fostering innovation.
The CEO Action pledge is just one step in the VSCPA's ongoing efforts to promote and grow diversity in the CPA profession in Virginia, vscpa.com/Diversity. Data from the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) shows that minorities represent only one in six professionals at accounting firms nationwide, yet by 2044, minorities will become the majority of the U.S. population. By increasing the CPA profession’s diversity, employers will be poised for the future by capturing the best talent to ensure organizational growth and success.
