The Virginia Department of Taxation (TAX) has announced the dates for its 2017 tax amnesty program, established by the Virginia General Assembly earlier this year. The program will run from Sept. 13 – Nov. 14.
The amnesty program will allow eligible taxpayers to obtain relief from tax debt by allowing them to pay only the tax due and half the interest on eligible bills and delinquent tax returns, with TAX waiving all other interest and penalties.
TAX has sent notices to the last known address of eligible taxpayers detailing which bills and delinquent returns qualify for the amnesty period. Taxpayers who have not filed returns for income, sales and other taxes administered by TAX may receive amnesty benefits for returns that were due more than 90 days prior to Sept. 13, 2017.
