Resolution to Support CPA Evolution Initiative

Approved by the VSCPA Board of Directors on April 29, 2020

Whereas, global trends in technology are dramatically impacting and altering the CPA profession;

Whereas, the skills and competencies of the accounting profession is rapidly changing and will continue to change;

Whereas, the exam requirements of the CPA must evolve in order to meet the demands of a rapidly changing marketplace;

Whereas, the American Institute of CPAs and the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy have proposed a new model for CPA licensure that includes a strong core in accounting, auditing, tax and technology that all candidates are required to complete;

Whereas, the proposed model includes a deeper level of study in one discipline area which candidates choose;

Whereas, the model, regardless of chosen discipline, leads to full CPA licensure, with rights and privileges consistent with any other CPA;

Now, therefore, be it resolved that the Board of Directors of the Virginia Society of CPAs hereby supports and endorses the proposed model and encourages the AICPA and NASBA to continue to pursue changes to licensure as presented in the proposed model.
