Communications Summer Intern (Remote)

The Virginia Society of CPAs (VSCPA), a professional state association in Richmond, Va., seeks an energetic intern who wants to expand their knowledge of communications and build their portfolio. The part-time intern will primarily focus on writing features and articles, crafting social media posts, and assisting the communications director with other communications, marketing, membership, or public relations projects.

About the role

  • Write articles and create content for the VSCPA’s hallmark member publication, Disclosures magazine, as well as other communications vehicles such as the VSCPA website, e-newsletters and social media.
  • Make edits and changes to articles based on communications director’s feedback.
  • Interview VSCPA members for print and/or online profiles and corresponding social media posts.
  • Assist communications director with any other related projects as needed.
  • Meet remotely with communications director weekly.

Qualifications

  • Must have a two- or four-year degree or be enrolled in a two-year or four-year secondary education institution and interested in pursuing a career in journalism, communications, marketing, or a related field.
  • Must have strong copywriting and editing skills; published articles in a high school, college, or other newspaper or magazine a plus.
  • Must be creative, energetic and highly self-motivated about writing and communications.
  • Must be organized with attention to deadlines and details.
  • Knowledge of Associated Press style required.
  • Knowledge of Office 365 and Microsoft Word required.
  • Experience with social media platforms, content creation and scheduling software.
  • Familiarity with website content management systems and graphic design programs.

Internship details

  • Reports to the communications director.
  • Internship will run for 12 weeks, from approximately mid-May to mid-August, based around intern’s school schedule and availability.
  • Commitment is 12 hours per week.
  • Must have own computer and camera.
  • $3,000 stipend paid over the course of the internship.
