A vast majority — 80% — of employers will be modernizing leave policies and programs in the next two years, according to a WTW report. With talent challenges the No. 1 reason for revamping programs, employers of all sizes aim to enhance engagement and the employee experience. Here are areas your employer could potentially make changes:
-
Paid time off (PTO): Currently, 12% of companies offer unlimited PTO, which is already an increase of 3% since 2022. Sixteen percent plan on continuing or onboarding unlimited PTO in the next two years.
-
Parental leave: Nearly one-fifth of companies plan to enhance maternity, paternity and adoption leave programs. Some companies are exploring offering parental transition support, such allowing new parents to work part-time after welcoming a child.
-
Bereavement: A quarter of the 90% of employers who offer bereavement leave will increase the amount of time off offered, and many will expand policies to cover extended family, chosen family and friends.
-
Caregiver leave: Offering a paid caregiver leave benefit for employees is a new area gaining traction since the pandemic. Currently 25% offer some type of paid caregiver leave, but another 22% will onboard the option in the next two years.
