The official approval of the VSCPA's building renovation plan was the highlight of the VSCPA Board of Directors' June meeting.
The renovation plan includes the use of $2 million from VSCPA reserves to align the Society's physical presence with the priorities of the VSCPA2025 strategic framework. The Board officially approved the funding at the meeting, where members saw a presentation from the VSCPA's design partners and a virtual tour through the new building. The goal of the renovation is to create a space that fosters a culture of learning and innovation.
Other major topics from the meeting include:
- CPA Evolution: The Board held a robust discussion on this topic, a joint effort from the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) and the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) aimed at evolving CPA licensure to reflect the skills and knowledge CPAs need in a marketplace disrupted by technology. The Board generally agreed with the principles driving the effort.
- Diversity & Inclusion Task Force: One of two new task forces formed by the Board, this group is working on advancing diversity and inclusion in the accounting profession in Virginia and getting member firms and companies involved in that effort. The VSCPA has already taken action on the topic with President & CEO Stephanie Peters' signing of the CEO Action for Diversity and Inclusion pledge.
- Digital Learning Task Force: This group is working to help the VSCPA continue to evolve its educational offerings to provide quality digital education for members and consumers. These members will look at the strategies needed to keep pace with our members' changing needs.
