Ethics Course Description

Virginia-Specific Ethics Course 2020

This training has been created to help you meet the Virginia Board of Accountancy's (VBOA) annual 2-hour (100-minute) CPE requirement for 2020. In 2003, the Virginia General Assembly passed a law requiring all CPAs subject to Virginia CPE requirements to take an annual Ethics CPE course.

Highlights

  • Satisfies the 2020 VBOA Ethics CPE requirement and fulfills some requirements for the following jurisdictions:
    • Maryland: Satisfies 2 hours
    • North Carolina: Group study and on-demand versions satisfy 2 hours for CPAs licensed in Virginia and North Carolina who primarily work in Virginia 
    • Washington, D.C.: Satisfies 2 hours
    • West Virginia: Satisfies 2 hours
  • Relevant to Virginia CPAs working in public practice, industry, government, nonprofits and academia
  • Uses case-based instruction to consider relevant ethical dilemmas
  • Includes course materials which serve as reference resources

Learning Objectives

Upon completion, participants should be able to:

  • Distinguish the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) Code of Professional Conduct and how it relates to enforcement cases
  • Identify changes to the volunteerism guidelines for CPAs in Virginia
  • Recognize rules and regulations that guide the profession in the state of Virginia
  • Analyze the difference between professional skepticism and professional judgment
  • Identify different ethical decision-making models
  • Apply decision-making models to come to informed decisions during ethical dilemmas

The Virginia Society of CPAs (VSCPA) is registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) as a sponsor of continuing professional education on the National Registry of CPE Sponsors. State boards of accountancy have final authority on the acceptance of individual courses for CPE credit.
