August is Pipeline Month at the VSCPA

August is Pipeline Month at the VSCPA! This month, we’ll be presenting articles and content related to the health of the CPA pipeline and our VSCPA2025 bold strategy “Influence students to become CPAs,” with a particular focus on college accounting programs as students get ready to return to school. Here’s what we’ve got in store:

  • Spotlight Q&As with accounting educators at Virginia colleges and universities on how they steer students toward the CPA profession, starting with Nancy Bagranoff, CPA, dean of the University of Richmond's Robins School of Business
  • A profile of VSCPA member Molly Brown, CPA, an accounting instructor at James Madison University in Harrisonburg
  • VSCPA President & CEO Stephanie Peters’s “Stephanie Says” blog, focused on the importance of a CPA culture on college campuses
  • A blog post from VSCPA member David Peters, CPA (no relation), of Peters Tax Preparation & Consulting in Richmond, on financial literacy education as a way to attract students to the profession
  • An update on how VSCPA members are participating in our CPAs in the Classroom program to expose students to the profession (and don't forget, we'd love for you to be one of those members!)
  • A Disclosures article on the future shape of CPA firms and the potential for an alternative path to the CPA credential
  • An article on how accounting students can be strategic with their extra 30 credit hours
  • Promoting VSCPA student membership (it’s free!) and the programming that’s replacing our Leaders’ Institute for college students
  • Reposting previous content related to the CPA pipeline, including our recap (PDF) of the Educators’ Symposium in June and the live episode of our VSCPA Leading Forward podcast documenting that event’s Firm of the Future panel

We hope you enjoy these updates on how we’re working with educators to protect the health of the CPA pipeline. Thanks for being a VSCPA member and supporting our pipeline initiatives!
