The VSCPA has written a letter to Sens. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) and Mark Warner (D-Va.) asking for their support and cosponsorship of the Mobile Workforce State Income Tax Simplification Act.
The bipartisan bill would provide a threshold of 30 days per year for a state to be able to tax a nonresident employee’s income and withhold taxes from the employee’s wages. Currently, each state has its own requirements for filing nonresident individual income tax returns and employer withholding on those employees.
The VSCPA wrote that the bill would “help ensure that the appropriate amount of tax is paid to state and local jurisdictions without placing undue burdens on employees and their employers.”
