VSCPA member Staci Henshaw, CPA, has been promoted to Deputy Auditor of Public Accounts at the Virginia Auditor of Public Accounts (APA).
The Dinwiddie native previously served as team leader for the APA’s Reporting and Standards Specialty Team, which is responsible for reviewing and responding to exposure drafts for new auditing and accounting standards and determining the impact of new standards on APA audits.
She joined the APA in 1994 and previously worked at Coopers & Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers).
Henshaw replaces fellow VSCPA member Martha Mavredes, CPA, who was appointed and confirmed as the Commonwealth’s new Auditor of Public Accounts.
“I am honored and excited about being selected for the Deputy position,” Henshaw said. “The APA is a wonderful organization and has offered me so much in terms of professional growth opportunities. I look forward to working with the Auditor of Public Accounts, Martha Mavredes, and our staff in our continued efforts to improve accountability and financial management in the Commonwealth.”
She has served as project manager for the audit of Virginia’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report since 2002 and managed numerous other special projects, including:
- Study on Feasibility of Using CPA Firms
- Accounts Receivable Review
- Review of Financial Accounting and Control Operations of the State Comptroller
- Special Review of Payroll and Human Resource Systems
Henshaw is an at-large member of the VSCPA Board of Directors and also serves on the Society’s Accounting and Auditing Advisory Committee and Government Task Force. She is an active participant in the National State Auditors Association, where she serves on several committees, and has served on multiple Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) advisory groups.
Henshaw earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Virginia.
