The VSCPA held the ninth Leaders’ Institute for Virginia’s brightest accounting students June 19–20 at the University of Richmond.
The VSCPA established the Leaders’ Institute in 2007 following a gift from accounting and consulting firm Baker Tilly. Specifically designed for the top college accounting students in the Commonwealth, the Leaders’ Institute provides a hands-on workshop program for young aspiring CPAs. The Institute is the only development program of its kind in Virginia and provides rising college juniors and seniors the opportunity for vital leadership training and real-life skills to successfully transition into the competitive marketplace.
More than 60 accounting students from 23 Virginia colleges and universities who have displayed exceptional academic achievement and a keen interest in business and professional services attended the event, which focused on career-building skills and tools of the accounting trade, offering insightful perspectives from seasoned professionals.
“Baker Tilly is proud to be the founding sponsor for the VSCPA Leaders’ Institute. We enjoy the opportunity to interact with these talented future leaders and provide them valuable insight into this great profession. It continues to be a rewarding partnership with the VSCPA,” Brad Nicklin, CPA, of Baker Tilly, said.
In addition to Baker Tilly, the VSCPA would like to thank the following sponsors of the Leaders’ Institute for their support of accounting and business education: Becker, Brown Edwards, Capital Group, Cherry Bekaert, Deloitte, Dixon Hughes Goodman, Elliott Davis Decosimo, Ernst & Young, Grant Thornton, Johnson Lambert, Kearney & Company, Keiter, KPMG, Meadows Urquhart & Cook, Mitchell Wiggins & Company, PBMares, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Roger CPA Review, the Virginia Auditor of Public Accounts, the VSCPA Educational Foundation and WellsColeman.
