Virginia Tax Conformity: Current Status
It's been a long road for tax conformity this year, and it's not quite over.
While all three conformity bills died during the 2010 General Assembly session, the 2010–2012 state budget, which is still awaiting Gov. Bob McDonnell's approval, was amended to include several changes to tax conformity. Health Care Reform Act: What Virginia CPAs Need to Know
On March 23, President Barack Obama signed into law sweeping health care reform legislation, The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (HR 3590). IRS Provides Guidance on Identifying Numbers for Tax Return Preparers
On March 25, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) issued proposed regulations allowing the IRS to require that tax return preparers use Preparer Tax Identification Numbers (PTINs) as the preparer’s identifying number on all tax returns and tax refund claims that they prepare. When final, these regulations will implement some of the recommendations in Publication 4832, Return Preparer Review.

GASB Proposes to Amend Financial Reporting Entity Requirements
The Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) today issued an Exposure Draft (ED) of a proposed Statement, The Financial Reporting Entity, an amendment of GASB Statements No. 14 and No. 34. The proposed Statement is intended to improve guidance for including, presenting, and disclosing information about component units and equity interest transactions of a financial reporting entity.
Focus on the Future: Educational Foundation Awards Nearly $30,000 in Scholarships
The VSCPA Educational Foundation recently selected its college scholarship recipients for the 2010–2011 academic year. The VSCPA Educational Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization to promoting business and accounting education, rewarding academic excellence and encouraging students to pursue promising careers.
