Gov. Kaine Declares September 13–19 Virginia Certified Public Accountants Week
September 11, 2009
To spotlight the value certified public accountants (CPA) offer the Commonwealth’s citizens and commerce, Gov. Timothy Kaine signed a proclamation (.PDF) recognizing September 13–19, 2009, as ”Virginia Certified Public Accountants Week.” The proclamation was introduced by the VSCPA as part of its Centennial anniversary in 2009.
The VSCPA hopes the commemorative week, along with other outreach activities, will build awareness of the significant growth and importance of the CPA profession and the VSCPA, which now serves more than 8,700 members. CPAs are trusted advisors to businesses, organizations and individuals, helping them make sound financial decisions, and this week highlights the CPA profession’s important contributions to Virginia citizens and communities.
During Virginia CPA Week, the VSCPA is hosting the first-ever CPA Day of Service on Friday, September 18, 2009. CPA firms and individual CPAs across Virginia will unite together on this day for volunteer activities of their choice. This special week and day will celebrate the VSCPA's milestone anniversary as well as the CPA profession’s long legacy of volunteerism and community outreach.
“We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Gov. Kaine for his support of this important proclamation to help raise public awareness of the CPA profession’s contributions to the Commonwealth,” said Jamie Walker, CPA, chair of the VSCPA Board of Directors. “We are very excited to culminate the week in a day of service to assist and volunteer for worthwhile Virginia organizations.”
In his proclamation, Kaine states, “CPAs in Virginia provide valuable accounting and auditing services, management advisory services, individual and corporate tax and financial planning advice and countless other services.”
The proclamation also notes CPAs in Virginia continuously draw upon their unique knowledge and experiences to provide sound, reliable financial counsel in order to protect and promote the growth of business, the soundness of government operations, the excellence of higher education and the confidence of investors in the Commonwealth of Virginia and throughout the United States of America.
To celebrate its Centennial, the VSCPA has planned a year’s worth of exciting activities, including holding its annual business meeting on a spring cruise from Norfolk to Bermuda, year-long public service initiatives, commemorative publications and anniversary events.
