Firm Ownership and Registration Requirements With the Virginia Board of Accountancy20357 Notice to RegulantsLicensed CPAs who have ownership in a firm, including sole proprietors, and who practice public accountancy or use the CPA designation in the name of that business, must register as a CPA firm with the Virginia Board of Accountancy (BOA). This means that you must have an individual CPA license and your business must have a firm registration issued by the BOA. Failure to register as a firm is a violation of BOA regulations. The firm registration application can be found on theBOA Web site; click on the "Applications and Forms" link. The fee for registration is $24. A firm registration is renewable every two years at a fee of $24. The BOA is proposing changes to the requirements for firm registration.
