Small Business Relief: Letter to Rep. Eric CantorJuly 28, 2006 The Honorable Eric Cantor Dear Representative Cantor: On behalf of the more than 8,000 members of the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants (VSCPA), I am writing to ask for your help in enacting legislation that would provide important relief for small businesses and their CPAs. I understand that House Republican leadership may be developing a package of small business tax relief measures in connection with a possible vote on minimum wage legislation. In that regard, we strongly urge you to consider including in this tax package a bill — the "Small Business Tax Flexibility Act" (H.R. 4006) — that has been introduced by Ways and Means Committee Member Clay Shaw (R-FL). The "Small Business Tax Flexibility Act" would allow start-up small partnerships and S corporations to elect taxable years other than the calendar year, which would provide a tremendous benefit to small businesses and CPAs alike. The legislation is strongly supported by the National Federation of Independent Business, the S Corporation Association and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. We thank you for your consideration of this request and your continuing leadership on behalf of American taxpayers and small businesses. Sincerely,
Bradley M. Roof, CPA, CMA, Ph.D. LAST UPDATED 7/28/2006
