Automatic Paperless Extensions: VSCPA Letter to LegislatorsJanuary 20, 2005 A personal letter to all members of the General Assembly Re: House Bill 2325 (Hull); Income tax, state; extension for filing tax returns. Dear Delegate, The Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants (VSCPA) supports HB 2325 allowing taxpayers to request an extension of six months after the original due date for filing income tax returns. HB 2325 will allow for a more streamlined process in filing extensions that will ease burdens not only for taxpayers and preparers, but for the Department of Taxation as well. Many other states already have a similar system in place that allows for this more efficient method of tax filing. The VSCPA has collaborated with the Department of Taxation on this measure, and we are proud to support HB 2325 as it comes before the Assembly for consideration. On behalf of its 8,000 members, the VSCPA urges you to support HB 2325 allowing for extensions on income tax return filings. Thank you for your consideration and please do not hesitate to contact us if we can be of any assistance to you on this or any other matter facing the Commonwealth. Questions and concerns may be directed to VSCPA Government Affairs Director Erin Collins at ecollins@vscpa.com or (800) 733-8272. The VSCPA's legislative counsels are Ralph L. "Bill" Axselle Jr., (804) 783-6405, and Bernard McNamee, (804) 783-6493 of Williams Mullen. Sincerely, John L. Vincie III, CPA LAST UPDATED 1/20/2005
