VSCPA Public Service InitiativeCPAs Serve Every Day
Through its public service initiative, the VSCPA aims to promote community outreach by highlighting different volunteer opportunities that all members can take advantage of. There are hundreds of organizations in need of assistance every day. From donating to your local food bank to helping at an animal shelter, there are always opportunities for CPAs to give back to the community. The VSCPA hopes to connect its members with these organizations.
To help unite VSCPA members in making a difference, the newly formed Public Service Task Force chooses a statewide organization (or cause) each year and promotes the volunteer opportunities to VSCPA members.
2009 Organizations
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) predicted food prices would rise another 4 to 5 percent during the year 2008. Because of rising food costs during the current economic downturn, Virginia Food Banks and the Meals on Wheels organizations find it increasingly difficult to provide food to elderly and needy Virginians. VSCPA members can help!
Virginia Food Banks
Virginia Food Banks aim to feed those who suffer from hunger by acquiring food through donations and distributing it through its network of member agencies. They strive to educate, empower and enlighten the community about the issues of hunger and nutrition.
Here’s how you can help: - Organize a food drive at your business, association, church or other group.
- Give a monetary donation (may be tax deductible).
- Assist in the warehouse (stocking, loading, inventory, etc.).
- Work as a food delivery driver.
- Serve as a visitor services aide.
- Assist with administrative duties.
- And more!

Here’s how you can help: - Assist with meal delivery (driving or riding along).
- Help prepare meals in the Meals on Wheels kitchen.
- Give a monetary donation (may be tax deductible).
- Participate in special events.
- Assist with client service needs.
