10 Easy Ways to Participate in Virginia Financial Literacy Month
The Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants (VSCPA) encourages all Virginia organizations to participate in Virginia Financial Literacy Month. Collaborative support will only strengthen efforts to raise awareness of financial literacy programs and resources available to Virginia citizens.
Here are 10 ideas:
- Link your website to the Financial Fitness consumer website (www.FinancialFitness.org). You can also place the special logo.
- Include information about the month in your organization's communications, publications, e-newsletters, marketing and direct mail.
- Budget whatever your organization can afford for financial literacy initiatives and education (e.g., community service event, resource development, speakers bureau, etc.) in your upcoming budget process.
- Develop a community service event or set up a booth at a local mall, government center, library or fair.
- Pitch your organization's involvement in Virginia Financial Literacy Month or provide articles on financial literacy topics to state and local media.
- Call talk show hosts of local radio and television stations to schedule an interview to promote the month's activities/events you have planned.
- Create a Virginia Financial Literacy Month banner/sign to hang at your office(s), at events or all over town.
- Recognize and award a person (staff, volunteer, member) who has played a significant role in your organization's financial literacy efforts during the month.
- Join the Virginia Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy — a nonprofit organization representing individuals and organizations in business, government, association/nonprofit and education who have joined together to improve the financial literacy of Virginians.
- Begin a dialogue and consider partnerships with groups already involved in the financial literacy arena (i.e. Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants, Junior Achievement, Virginia Council on Economic Education, Virginia Credit Union League, etc.).
