2011–2012 Thomas M. Berry Jr. Annual Scholarship
The Thomas M. Berry Jr. Annual Scholarship is awarded to a student who has demonstrated academic excellence, financial need and exemplary leadership skills. This $2,500 scholarship is administered by the VSCPA Educational Foundation, and was established to honor Thomas M. Berry Jr., CAE, who retired as president & CEO of the VSCPA in April 2007.
Eligibility Requirements
- Applicant must be a United States citizen.
- Applicant must be currently enrolled in an accredited Virginia college or university undergraduate or graduate program with the intent to pursue a degree in accounting.
- Applicant must have completed at least three (3) hours of accounting and be currently registered for at least three (3) more accounting credit hours (supporting documentation required).
- Application must be typed or printed.

- Essay (500-word maximum) that describes a situation in which you have utilized one or more of the following competencies:
- Leadership: Describe a situation in which you demonstrated the ability to influence, inspire and motivate an individual or group of individuals to achieve desired results.
- Ethical Conduct: Describe a situation in which you were confronted with an ethical dilemma and explain how you addressed the issue.
- Decision Making: Describe a situation in which you demonstrated effective problem solving through your decision-making skills, personal insight, judgment and creativity.
- Philanthropy: Describe a situation in which you demonstrated philanthropic behavior, thereby solving a problem for or improving your community.
- Current résumé
- Official transcript reflecting GPA from fall 2010 (spring or summer 2010 also acceptable if fall 2010 is not yet available; may be mailed separately)

- Applications for the 2011-2012 academic year are due no later than January 10, 2011. Applications will be available for download this summer.
