Grants


The VSCPA Educational Foundation grant program helps support accounting and business education as well as improves the financial health of Virginians of all ages by promoting wise money management. The Foundation awarded the following grants this year:

Virginia Beach Public Schools Education Foundation
Amount: $2,000

Description: This grant was awarded to support Virginia Beach high school teachers in developing high-quality accounting curriculum that encourages students to pursue business careers.

Virginia Jump$tart Coalition’s Financial Literacy Summit
Amount: $2,500
Description: The Foundation was an event sponsor of the 2007 Virginia Financial Literacy Summit held by the Virginia Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy. This free event, held October 17, 2007, attracted over 300 of Virginia's high school administrators and teachers, as well as the state's leading proponents of financial literacy, to learn about financial education and hear best practices. 

VSCPA LifeSkills Toolkit
Amount: $2,500

Description: The Virginia Society of CPAs (VSCPA) partnered with James Madison University to offer a seven-week student seminar series called LifeSkills. The program is designed to educate college students on personal finance and other money management topics. In February 2008, the VSCPA developed an online toolkit to provide other Virginia colleges and universities with a template for implementing a similar program. The Foundation’s support helped underwrite the toolkit development, production and distribution.

Ph.D. Grant
Amount: $3,000
Description: The goal of this grant is to help Virginia Tech and Virginia Commonwealth University, the only Virginia schools that offer Ph.D.s in accounting, attract CPAs into their programs. Each school will receive grants on alternate years and will use the money to supplement the stipend already offered to candidates.
