Tax Season 2007: CPAs Offer Free Tax Help To Virginia Taxpayers

January 23, 2007

Got filing questions about your 2006 federal and Virginia state taxes? Need help determining tax implications from a recent natural disaster or other life change? It's tax time again and the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants (VSCPA) is pleased to offer FREE tax assistance to Virginia taxpayers through a special Web site called www.VATaxHelp.com.

Launched in January 2003, the Web site is designed to provide consumers and businesses with premier tax and personal financial planning resources, information and services. VATaxHelp.com contains a wealth of tax resources, including Virginia and federal tax information with links to download forms, financial planning articles for individuals and business professionals, frequently asked tax questions and tips for the 2006 filing season.

In addition, anyone filing federal or state tax returns in the state of Virginia can get free online tax advice by submitting e-mail questions through the Web site to vataxhelp@vscpa.com. Experienced, licensed certified public accountants (CPA) will provide answers to the tax questions within three business days. Tax questions can be submitted online from January 31 through April 11, 2007.

"The Virginia Society of CPAs and our CPA members are thrilled to offer this valuable community service to Virginians," said Bradley M. Roof, CPA, chair of the VSCPA Board of Directors. "Reaching out and assisting the public is an integral part of our organization's mission."

The special Web site also contains useful information about CPAs, including the unique, diverse services they provide (like tax planning); how to choose one that meets your needs; and more. Learn why CPAs are the premier tax experts. In fact, CPAs must have college degrees, pass rigorous exams and complete continuing professional education, and they are certified by state boards of accountancy. That's why, at tax time and all year long, the advice of a CPA is invaluable.

VATaxHelp.com also houses a list of Internet hot links for consumers with information on tax, personal finance, small business, technology, government and more. An online Nonprofit Resource Center is available for nonprofit organizations, including a wealth of articles, tools and online financial guides. The nonprofit guides contain information about important tax issues; liability and responsibility of Board members; budgeting; and a toolkit for nonprofit auditing committees.

In addition, the VSCPA also provides dynamic speakers on a wide range of business and financial topics at no cost for companies and organizations through its Speakers Bureau. A convenient, online speaker request form is provided at www.VATaxHelp.com.
