2009 CPA Day of Service

The VSCPA is hosting the first-ever CPA Day of Service on Friday, September 18, 2009, in celebration of its milestone anniversary and the profession’s long legacy of volunteerism and community outreach.

CPA Day of Service provides a flexible opportunity for firms and individuals across Virginia to organize their own volunteer activities that focus on giving back to their communities. United together for a single day of service, the CPA profession can make a huge impact in the Commonwealth.

Here’s how it works:

  1. First, simply make the commitment to give back.
  2. Next, figure out how you’d like to do it. Whether you participate as a firm, company, department, team or by yourself, you can make a difference. Volunteer during your lunch break, during the day or after work. Just give back!
  3. Choose an organization, cause or activity and work out the logistics. Some ideas include:
    • Volunteering at a soup kitchen over your lunch break.
    • Cleaning up a local park.
    • Pairing up with a service organization and asking how you or your group can get involved.
    • Collecting funds or canned goods throughout the workday for a worthy organization.
    • Reading to children at a local elementary school.
    • Pairing up with a nonprofit organization and providing pro bono financial or consulting services.

  4. Once you’ve ironed out the details, let us know your plans. You’ll even receive a free CPA Day of Service T-shirt! We will also use this information to measure the collective impact the profession has on Virginia communities on the CPA Day of Service, so be sure to keep us informed.
