VSCPA Financial Fitness Toy Drive
In October 2006, the Virginia Society of CPAs (VSCPA), the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA), other state CPA societies and the Ad Council partnered to launch a national public service announcement (PSA) campaign. Called “Feed the Pig,” the campaign uses the traditional image of savings, a piggy bank character called Benjamin Bankes, to share with 25- to 34-year-olds the benefits of saving money. The campaign includes TV, radio, print, online and outdoor advertising — all highlighting saving as the key step to building a solid financial future.
Each year, the VSCPA donates 100 piggy banks to Toys for Tots to teach children the importance of saving and encourage parents to consider money-minded toys as holiday gifts. Suggested money-minded toys include board games, such as Monopoly, LIFE and Pay Day, piggy banks, toy cash registers and ATMs, safes, money play sets, money-themed books, coin collection sets, bubble gum machines and money sorters.
In December 2007, VSCPA chapters statewide participated in a toy drive to collect money-minded toys. The VSCPA would like to thank the Northern Virginia, Richmond, Thomas Jefferson (Charlottesville area) and Tidewater chapters for collecting toys and donating them to local charities. Over 300 children around the state received money-minded toys during the holiday season thanks to Virginia CPAs.
Through its Financial Fitness initiative, the VSCPA offers a wealth of resources, articles and publications to improve the financial health of all Virginians. Please visit www.FinancialFitness.org for more personal finance information.
