James Madison University: Where it all began

James Madison University (JMU) launched the original LifeSkills program to prepare its students for all aspects of life after college, held over seven consecutive weeks. Topics included everything from money management and insurance options to when to consult a lawyer.

Over the past decade, the seminar has consistently attracted more than 150 students each session, filling the room with eager students who are excited to secure a bright future.

In addition to successfully preparing thousands of students for the real world, JMU has also secured additional revenue through the LifeSkills program, which has helped offset the amount of time, effort and initiative that goes into implementing the program. At a cost of $189 per registration, JMU traditionally nets $20,000 in income per program.

Through years of testing, evaluation and improvment, JMU has laid the groundwork for a topnotch program that can be easily applied on college campuses across the Commonwealth and beyond.
