Virginia Disaster Recovery Help

As a part of its Financial Fitness initiative to improve the financial health of Virginians, the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants (VSCPA) offers free resources and volunteer assistance to the public to help with disaster recovery in the wake of natural disasters. An online resource center and public service program, Virginia Disaster Recovery Help, has been developed to help individuals and businesses deal with the financial and tax consequences that can follow disasters as well as steps to take prior to a disaster.

Through the statewide public service program, CPA members of the VSCPA will advise Virginia residents on how to recover from financial loss from natural disasters and unexpected emergencies. Individuals and businesses that sign up for the program will be matched with an experienced, licensed CPA volunteer in their locality to receive a free consultation on topics including:

  • How to develop a pre- and post-disaster financial recovery plan
  • How to manage property loss
  • How to determine tax implications from disaster, including IRS and Virginia Department of Taxation filing guidelines
  • How to restore household security
  • How to negotiate with insurance companies to ensure best possible coverage
  • How to deal with financial decisions after death

Sign up for the program using our online form, or contact VSCPA community Relations Coordinator
Tracey Zink at (800) 733-8272.

The VSCPA also has an online Disaster Recovery Resource Center with links to information for CPAs as well as individuals and businesses on steps to take prior to a disaster, during disaster and in the aftermath of disaster.
