Get involved now! The VSCPA offers many ways for members to get involved in financial literacy education. Sign up online for any of the Financial Fitness volunteer opportunities below.
"Ask a CPA" E-mail Program
Through the "Ask a CPA" E-mail Program, the VSCPA offers free assistance to improve the financial health of Virginians. Experienced, licensed CPAs provide answers to personal finance and tax questions within three business days. Fellow members may sign up to answer personal finance questions year round or tax season questions from January through April.
Financial Fitness Day
The VSCPA holds an annual community service event, called Financial Fitness Day, during Financial Literacy Month (the month of April) at sites statewide. Volunteer CPAs man informational booths to offer free resources and materials to local communities. Fellow and associate members may sign up for one- or two-hour shifts in the morning or afternoon, or they may volunteer for a half day or whole day (four hours).
Speakers Bureau
As a volunteer for the Speakers Bureau, you serve as a contact for speaking engagements at nonprofit organizations, businesses, schools, VSCPA chapters, VSCPA member companies/firms, CPE events, etc. Topics include financial planning (budgeting, saving, investing, etc.), small business advice, nonprofit issues, CPA services and careers, and much more! Speeches, brochures, articles and presentation materials are available at no charge. Fellow and associate members are eligible to volunteer.
Nonprofit Pro Bono Assistance Program
Through the Nonprofit Pro Bono Assistance Program, the VSCPA matches Virginia nonprofit organizations in need of financial assistance with CPAs who want to get involved in their communities. Fellow members interested in offering pro bono services (advice and financial guidance on financial literacy topics, including auditing, boards of directors service, general volunteer work, tax planning, etc.) will be notified of new opportunities in their area.
Tax and Pro Bono Public Service Programs
The VSCPA offers numerous pro bono and tax season community service programs. These include a free tax season e-mail program, NBC12 Tax Help in Richmond, Roanoke Public Radio and TV Tax Shows, Virginia Military Tax Help, and Virginia Disaster Recovery Help. Fellow members may sign up for any of these programs.
VSCPA members can sign up online to become a Financial Fitness volunteer! Want to get involved on the national level? Be sure to join the AICPA's 360 Degrees of Financial Literacy national volunteer database.
