20162017 VSCPA Educational Foundation Scholarships

Scholarships for the 2016–2017 academic year range from $1,000 to $5,000. Visit vscpa.com/scholarships to apply by April 1, 2016.  

All applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • U.S. citizenship
  • Successful completion of 3 credit hours of accounting prior to the Fall 2016 semester
  • Current enrollment in an accredited Virginia college or university with the intent to pursue a degree in accounting
  • Enrollment in an accredited Virginia college or university accounting program in the Fall 2016 semester

VSCPA Undergraduate Accounting Scholarship | Top
On average, up to $1,000 awarded to undergraduate students who demonstrate academic excellence and financial need.

Eligibility:

  • Must demonstrate a minimum overall and accounting GPA of 3.0.

VSCPA Minority Accounting Scholarship | Top
On average, up to $1,000 awarded to undergraduate or graduate minority students who demonstrate academic excellence and financial need.

Eligibility:

  • Must demonstrate a minimum overall and accounting GPA of 3.0.
  • Must be a member of one of the following race/ethnic groups: American Indian or Alaskan Native, Asian, Black or African American, Hispanic or Latino, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander.

VSCPA Graduate Accounting Scholarship | Top
On average, up to $1,000 awarded to graduate students who demonstrate academic excellence and financial need.

Eligibility:

  • Must demonstrate a minimum overall and accounting undergraduate GPA of 3.0. 
  • Must be enrolled in a graduate program for the Fall 2016 semester.

VSCPA Past Presidents/Chair Scholarship | Top
This  scholarship, of up to $1,000, is awarded to an undergraduate student who demonstrates academic excellence and financial need. This award honors past presidents/chairs of the VSCPA and VSCPA Educational Foundation.

Eligibility

  • Must demonstrate a minimum overall and accounting GPA of 3.0.
  • Preference given to a student who demonstrates leadership potential.

VSCPA Ph.D. Accounting Scholarship | Top
This scholarship, of up to $5,000, is awarded to a student who is pursuing a Ph.D. in accounting and who demonstrates academic excellence and financial need.

Eligibility:

  • Must demonstrate a minimum overall and accounting GPA of 3.0.
  • Must be a full-time doctoral student enrolled in the Fall 2016 semester.

CST Group Scholarship | Top
This $2,500 scholarship is funded by the CST Group.

Eligibility:

  • Must be enrolled in the Fall 2016 semester as a junior or senior undergraduate accounting major at University of Virginia or George Mason University with the intent to take the CPA Exam.
  • Must demonstrate a minimum overall and accounting GPA of 3.0.

Dixon Hughes Goodman Scholarship | Top
Two scholarships of $2,000 each are funded by Dixon Hughes Goodman.

Eligibility:

  • Must be enrolled in the Fall 2016 semester as a junior, senior or "fifth-year" undergraduate, or graduate accounting major with the intent to take the CPA Exam.
  • Must demonstrate a minimum overall and accounting GPA of 3.3.

H. Burton Bates Jr. Scholarship | Top
This $2,000 scholarship is funded by the children of H. Burton Bates Jr., CPA, a VSCPA life member who passed away in May 2005.

Eligibility:

  • Must be enrolled full-time in the Fall 2016 semester as a junior or senior undergraduate accounting major OR have earned an undergraduate degree from an accredited Virginia college or university and enrolled at least part-time (as defined by the institution) in the Fall 2016 semester completing additional coursework in order to take the CPA Exam.
  • Must demonstrate a minimum overall and accounting GPA of 3.0.

Kearney & Company Scholarship | Top
Two scholarships of $2,500 each are funded by Kearney & Company.

Eligibility #1:

  • Must be enrolled in the Fall 2016 semester as a junior undergraduate accounting major at Christopher Newport University, George Mason University or Virginia Tech.
  • Must be enrolled full-time during the term of application and throughout the term of scholarship in coursework required to qualify to take the CPA Exam OR enrolled part-time and employed a minimum of five hours a week.
  • Must demonstrate a minimum overall and accounting GPA of 2.5.
  • Must demonstrate involvement in extracurricular activities.

Eligibility #2:

  • Must be enrolled in the Fall 2016 semester as a senior undergraduate accounting major at Christopher Newport University, George Mason University or Virginia Tech.
  • Must be enrolled full-time during the term of application and throughout the term of scholarship in coursework required to qualify to take the CPA Exam OR enrolled part-time and employed a minimum of five hours a week.
  • Must demonstrate a minimum overall and accounting GPA of 2.5.
  • Must demonstrate involvement in extracurricular activities.

Michael E. Mares Scholarship | Top
This $3,500 scholarship is funded by PBMares and friends, family and colleagues of Michael E. Mares, CPA, a VSCPA member known for his tax law expertise and impact on the profession, who passed away in 2009.

Eligibility:

  • Must be enrolled in the Fall 2016 semester as a junior or senior undergraduate accounting major with the intent to take the CPA Exam.
  • Must be enrolled full-time during the term of application and throughout the term of scholarship in coursework required to qualify to take the CPA Exam.
  • Must demonstrate a minimum overall and accounting GPA of 3.0.
  • Must demonstrate involvement in extracurricular activities.

MJW Scholarship | Top
This $3,500 scholarship is funded by MJW (formerly Murray, Jonson, White & Associates) and its clients and friends.

Eligibility:

  • Must be enrolled in the Fall 2016 semester as a junior or senior undergraduate accounting major with the intent to take the CPA Exam
  • Must demonstrate a minimum overall and accounting GPA of 3.0.
  • First preference: student whose permanent residence is in Northern Virginia. Second preference: student whose permanent residence is in Virginia.

Thomas M. Berry Jr. Scholarship | Top
Two scholarships of $2,500 each are funded by friends, family and colleagues of Thomas M. Berry Jr., who retired as president & CEO of the VSCPA in April 2007.

Eligibility:

  • Must be enrolled in the Fall 2016 semester as an accounting major with intent to take the CPA Exam. 
  • Must demonstrate a minimum overall and accounting GPA of 3.0.

Verus Financial Partners Scholarship | Top
This $2,500 scholarship is funded by Verus Financial Partners.

Eligibility:

  • Must be enrolled in the Fall 2016 semester as a junior or senior undergraduate accounting major with the intent to take the CPA Exam.
  • Must demonstrate a minimum overall and accounting GPA of 3.0.

Virginia Tech Doctoral Scholarship | Top
This $2,500 doctoral scholarship honors and remembers the lives of Austin M. Cloyd, Matthew G. Gwaltney & Maxine S. Turner, students of Virginia accounting families who were lost in the tragic events at Virginia Tech on April 16, 2007. Generous donations from VSCPA members and accounting firms in Virginia have made it possible for the Foundation to provide this financial support to students pursuing a doctoral degree in accounting at Virginia Tech.

Eligibility

  • Must be enrolled in the Fall 2016 semester as a doctoral student at Virginia Tech.

Wall, Einhorn & Chernitzer Scholarship | Top
This $2,250 scholarship is funded by Wall, Einhorn & Chernitzer.

Eligibility:

  • Must be enrolled in the Fall 2016 semester as a junior, senior or "fifth-year" undergraduate or graduate accounting major at Old Dominion University, University of Virginia, The College of William & Mary, Virginia Tech or James Madison University with the intent to take the CPA Exam.
  • Must demonstrate a minimum overall and accounting GPA of 3.0.

Yount, Hyde & Barbour Scholarship  | Top
This $2,500 scholarship is funded by Yount, Hyde & Barbour.

Eligibility:

  • Must be enrolled in the Fall 2016 semester as a junior, senior or "fifth year" undergraduate or graduate accounting major with the intent to take the CPA Exam.
  • Applicant must demonstrate a minimum overall and accounting GPA of 3.0.
