VSCPA Names Its Outstanding Member of the Year

The VSCPA named member Dian Calderone, CPA, Outstanding Member of the Year at its annual meeting on May 14 in Richmond. The 2010 recipient of this award, Calderone is a partner in her own firm, Hunt & Calderone, PC, in Newport News.

The VSCPA established the award to recognize a CPA member who has provided outstanding service to the profession through participation in VSCPA activities, civic engagement and charitable activities that promote a positive image of accounting and the CPA profession.

“I am delighted to honor Dian as the recipient of this award — someone who truly deserves recognition for her many valuable contributions,” said Bradford R. Jones, CPA, chair of the VSCPA Board of Directors.

Throughout her career, Calderone has worked in public accounting, taught at Christopher Newport University as an adjunct faculty member and served on the boards of many organizations, including the National Association of Accountants, Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce, Foodbank of the Virginia Peninsula and United Way of the Virginia Peninsula, among others. She has also served on numerous VSCPA task forces.

She is currently chair of the Virginia Board of Accountancy (BOA) and was previously chair of the BOA Enforcement Committee.

Calderone has received several awards for her outstanding work, including honors from the Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce, Virginia Business magazine and Christopher Newport University — and now VSCPA Outstanding Member of the Year.

“We all have a responsibility to give back to the community,” Calderone says. “If you become involved and understand the process and make contributions, it will be better for all of us.”

When Calderone isn’t working or volunteering, she enjoys spending time with her two children, a Virginia Tech grad and an accounting major at Clemson. She is also a huge Steelers fan and enjoys traveling and trying new, eclectic restaurants.

The Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants (VSCPA) is the leading professional association dedicated to enhancing the success of CPAs. Founded in 1909, the VSCPA has 9,000 members who work in public accounting, industry, government and education.
