VSCPA Names Top Five Members Under 35

Five outstanding young professionals were recognized by the VSCPA at the VSCPA’s annual meeting on May 14 in Richmond. The new award, Top 5 Under 35, identifies rising stars of the CPA profession in Virginia.

In its inaugural year, the award elicited a remarkable response, and members of the volunteer selection panel said they were overwhelmed with the amount of highly qualified, impressive nominees. Nominees excelled in one or more of the following categories: professional achievement, VSCPA or local VSCPA chapter accomplishment, community contribution or dedication to the CPA profession.

“I am so proud of all of these young leaders,” said Bradford R. Jones, CPA, chair of the VSCPA Board of Directors. “Considering all that they’ve accomplished before the age of 35, just imagine what they will contribute to the profession in the next few decades. This is the next wave of top leaders.”

The VSCPA is pleased to announce its CPA members that were selected as top five members under 35 this year:

Alan Hostetler, CPA, is an auditor with Thomas C. Stott, CPA, PC, in Charlottesville. Currently serving as president of the VSCPA Thomas Jefferson Chapter, Hostetler began his first term on the board of his local chapter in 2006. Hostetler has nine years of experience in nonprofit auditing and informational return reporting and has been recognized for his outstanding work in the field. He was selected as a Virginia Business Super CPA in both 2006 and 2007 and is a 2001 graduate of Eastern Mennonite University,

Clare Levison, CPA, is an analyst with Alliant Techsystems, Inc., in Radford, where she has worked for more than a decade. She has more than 10 years of experience in organizational finance, including budgeting, pricing and program analysis. She authored the cover feature for the September/October 2009 issue of Disclosures magazine and also writes a biweekly personal finance column for The Roanoke Times. Levison has served on a variety of VSCPA task forces and is currently on the VSCPA Board of Directors. She is a 1998 graduate of Radford University.

Ryan Losi, CPA, is a partner with Piascik & Associates, PC, in Glen Allen. In May 2007, Losi was selected as a charter member and chairman of one of 10 task forces for then Gov. Tim Kaine’s VITAL (Virginia International Trade Alliance) program, where his focus was to develop a marketing campaign to help attract international business to the Commonwealth. Losi also speaks regularly about 20 times a year and teaches international accounting at the Executive MBA program at Virginia Commonwealth University. He is a 1997 graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University.

Andrew Martin, CPA, is a vice president/manager with Corbin & Company, PC, in Chesapeake, where he has worked nearly six years, specializing in attestation engagements, tax preparation, business and tax consulting, and litigation support engagements. He began supporting the profession locally by joining the board of the VSCPA Tidewater Chapter in 2005, eventually serving as president in 2008–2009. He currently serves on the VSCPA Educational Foundation Board of Directors. A 2001 graduate of The College of William and Mary, Martin has been selected as a Virginia Business Super CPA from 2005 through 2009.

Niki White, CPA, is a manager with Yount, Hyde & Barbour, PC, in Glen Allen. She was the youngest member to serve on the VSCPA Richmond Chapter Board of Directors, on which she just finished her term as president. She has also served on the VSCPA Educational Foundation Board of Directors, and is a four-time Virginia Business Super CPA. A 2001 graduate of Pennsylvania State University, White completed six six-month internships to gain a broad perspective of her profession: international manufacturing, construction, behavioral health management, consulting, public accounting and banking.
