VSCPA Educational Foundation Awards Nearly $30,000 in College Scholarships


The VSCPA Educational Foundation recently selected its college scholarship recipients for the 2010–2011 academic year. The VSCPA Educational Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting business and accounting education, rewarding academic excellence and encouraging students to pursue promising careers.

This year, the VSCPA Educational Foundation awarded nearly $30,000 to 18 accounting college students across Virginia. Awards were given in several scholarship categories, including undergraduateminority and graduate. The Foundation also offered seven named scholarships, including the new Wall, Einhorn & Chernitzer Scholarship.

Scholarship applicants must be currently enrolled or have been accepted in an accounting program at a Virginia college or university. Other selection criteria for the awards include overall academic performance, entry essay, faculty recommendation(s) and community and/or extracurricular activities.

The 2010 scholarship recipients are:

VSCPA Minority Scholarship ($1,000)

VSCPA Undergraduate Scholarship ($1,000)

  • Spasmira Dimitrov of Virginia Beach, University of Virginia
  • Judith Hodges of Richmond, University of Richmond
  • Candice Owens of Church View, Longwood University
  • Charity Spanski of Lynchburg, Virginia Tech

VSCPA Graduate Scholarship ($1,000)

  • Shenelle Rogers of Chesapeake, Virginia Commonwealth University
  • Donovan Huffer of Churchville, Lynchburg College
  • Eric Negangard of Brookville, In., Virginia Tech

Goodman & Company Scholarship ($2,500)

  • Julie Ferguson of Baltimore, Md., Old Dominion University

H. Burton Bates Jr. Scholarship ($1,900)

Thomas M. Berry Jr. Scholarship ($2,500)
