VSCPA Requests PTIN Regulation Comment Deadline Extension
The Honorable Douglas H. Shulman Commissioner CC:PALPD:PR (REG-134235-08) Room 5205 Internal Revenue Service P.O. Box 7604 Ben Franklin Station Washington, D.C. 20044
The Honorable William J. Wilkins Chief Counsel Internal Revenue Service 1111 Constitution Avenue, NW Washington, D.C. 20224
RE: REG-134235-08 Proposed Regulations under IRC 6109
Dear Commissioner Shulman and Chief Counsel Wilkins:
On behalf of the 9,000 members of the Virginia Society of CPAs (VSCPA), we respectfully request a 30-day extension of time for submission of comments on REG-134235-08 Furnishing Identifying Number of Tax Return Preparer.
The VSCPA supports the implementation of an efficient and accurate PTIN system, and our members appreciate that you have solicited comments on this very important matter. However, as the due date for comments is in the middle of the tax filing season, it comes at a very inopportune time for the CPA profession. We would appreciate an extension to May 26, 2010, to submit comments.
Thank you for your consideration. If we can be of any service to you, please contact me or VSCPA Government Affairs Director Emily Walker at ewalker@vscpa.com or (804) 612-9428.
Sincerely,
James K. Walker, CPA Chair, Virginia Society of CPAs
cc: Virginia Congressional Delegation LAST UPDATED 4/9/2010
