VSCPA Wins Award for Centennial Celebration Campaign

On Thursday May 6, the VSCPA won a “Commonwealth Award of Excellence,” in the extended events and observances category of the 2010 Virginia Public Relations Awards for its Centennial Celebration campaign. The statewide awards competition is sponsored by the Richmond Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA).

“The awards honor Virginia’s best work in public relations,” said Denise Baddour, PRSA Richmond president. “Virginia’s PR professionals continue to produce high-caliber work, and this year was no exception.”

The VSCPA celebrated its Centennial anniversary in 2009 — marking 100 years of an organized CPA profession and statewide organization uniting and representing CPAs across the Commonwealth.

In recognition of the Centennial, the VSCPA held its annual meeting during a cruise to Bermuda and offered numerous member networking events around the state. The Society spearheaded the first-ever CPA Day of Service volunteer event in Virginia on Friday, September 18, 2009. The Day of Service fell during Virginia CPA Week, September 13–19, 2009, as declared by Gov. Tim Kaine — a proclamation which was also introduced by the VSCPA as part of its 100th anniversary on October 6, 2009.

There are two award divisions in the Virginia Public Relations Awards: Programs and Tactics. Programs are entire communications campaigns, while Tactics are specific components of a campaign. Multiple categories are included in the two divisions, and each category can have “Award of Merit” or “Award of Excellence” winners — the top award in a category. The “Best in Show” award honors the best of the best of all “Award of Excellence” winners.

Now in its 63rd year, the prestigious Virginia Public Relations Awards program recognizes stellar public relations and communications activities based on excellence and innovation in research, planning, execution and evaluation. The judges were members of the Kentucky Bluegrass chapter of PRSA.

“The VSCPA is honored to receive this wonderful recognition from PRSA Richmond for our 2009 Centennial Celebration,” said VSCPA Vice President of Member & Public Relations Tina Lambert, CAE. “This campaign enhanced VSCPA members’ connection to their association and also promoted to the public the longevity of this trusted profession.”

The Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants (VSCPA) is the leading professional association dedicated to enhancing the success of CPAs.
