Tax Season 2010: Certified Public Accountants Offer Free Tax Help to Virginians

Got filing questions about your 2009 federal and Virginia state taxes? Need help determining tax implications due to the recent economic crisis or a life change? It’s tax time again, and the Virginia Society of CPAs (VSCPA) is pleased to offer FREE tax assistance to Virginia taxpayers through its Tax Resource Center — a special section on the consumer website www.FinancialFitness.org

The VSCPA Tax Resource Center is designed to provide consumers and businesses with premier tax and personal financial planning resources, information and services. It contains a wealth of tax resources, including Virginia and federal tax information with links to forms, tax and financial planning articles for individuals and business professionals, frequently asked tax questions and tips for the 2010 filing season.

In addition, anyone filing federal or state tax returns in the Commonwealth of Virginia can get free online tax advice by e-mailing questions at www.FinancialFitness.org through the “Ask a CPA” Tax Help E-mail Program. Experienced, licensed certified public accountants (CPA) will provide answers to tax questions within three business days. Tax questions can be submitted online.

“The Virginia Society of CPAs and our CPA members are thrilled to offer this valuable community service to Virginians,” said James K. Walker, CPA, chair of the VSCPA Board of Directors. “Reaching out and assisting the public is an integral part of our organization’s mission.”

FinancialFitness.org also houses a list of hot web links for consumers with information on tax, personal finance, small business, technology, government and more. An online Nonprofit Resource Center is available for nonprofit organizations, including a wealth of articles, tools and online financial guides. The nonprofit guides contain information about important tax issues, liability and responsibility of Board members and budgeting, as well as a toolkit for nonprofit auditing committees.

In addition, the VSCPA provides dynamic speakers on a wide range of business and financial topics, including tax issues, at no cost for businesses, nonprofit organizations and schools through its Speakers Bureau. A convenient, online speaker request form is provided at www.FinancialFitness.org.
