About the VSCPA: History and Membership
The Virginia Society of CPAs was founded in 1909. Our membership consists of more than 8,000 individuals who actively work in the financial marketplace. The Society office, also referred to as the CPA center, is located in the Innsbrook Corporate Center in Glen Allen.
The VSCPA serves as a central source of information for its members, offering education programs and representing the interests of CPAs before both state and federal agencies and legislators. The Society also works to improve the image of the CPA with various publics: the general public, the financial community, the education community and the legal community.
The Society has 10 chapters throughout the state that meet monthly, many offering continuing professional education (CPE) along with a dinner or luncheon speaker. Chapter membership is voluntary and allows a member to be active within his/her community. Each chapter has its own dues structure and, in this respect, is independent of the Society.
At the national level, CPAs can belong to the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), headquartered in New York with offices in New Jersey and Washington D.C. Each state has its own state society independent of the AICPA. CPAs can choose to belong to the AICPA and/or the VSCPA, but it is not a mandatory requirement.
