VSCPA Educational Foundation Awards $25,000 in College Scholarships

The VSCPA Educational Foundation recently awarded $25,000 in accounting scholarships to 16 Virginia college and university students for the 2006–2007 academic year. Winners were selected in the following scholarship categories: undergraduate, minority undergraduate, graduate and the Goodman & Company Annual Scholarship. The VSCPA Educational Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting business and accounting education, rewarding academic excellence and encouraging students to pursue promising careers.

To qualify for a VSCPA Educational Foundation undergraduate or minority undergraduate scholarship, recipients must complete a minimum of three credit hours of accounting course work, be enrolled in three additional accounting credit hours and have an accounting GPA of 3.0. Graduate scholarship applicants must be currently enrolled or have been accepted in a graduate accounting program at a Virginia college or university. Other selection criteria for the awards includes overall academic performance, entry essay, faculty recommendation(s), and community and/or extracurricular activities.

The Goodman & Company Annual Scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior accounting major enrolled at a Virginia college or university who demonstrate academic excellence and financial need to pursue a career in public accounting.

  • Laura Equi of Roanoke, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University

  • Todd P. Kuzniewski of Herndon, George Mason University
  • Amanda McCarty of Rocky Mount, Roanoke College
